How large is the
town of Aiken? The town has a population of 28,000 with
approximately 125,000 people living in Aiken County. We are
within a 30 minute drive to Augusta, which is the second largest
city in the state of Georgia.
What are some of
the unique features of the community? The town has received
national recognition for being an all American community. It has
a broad base of diversified activities. Even though it is small,
a variety of cultural events are continuously available. The
University of South Carolina has an extension campus and offers
many outstanding activities, including the Academy of Lifetime
Learning for seniors over fifty. It is also considered on of
the prime equine areas in the country and is one of the top polo
communities in the nation.
Where is the
closest airport? Columbia has a major regional airport, which
is an hour drive from Aiken. The Atlanta International Airport is
a three hour drive.
Where is Woodside
Plantation located? It is within the town limits of Aiken.
As a result, Woodside has city water, sewer, fire protection and
city police. A major shopping center and grocery store is just
outside the east gate.
What medical
facilities are available in Aiken? Aiken hosts one of the
finest hospitals in the southeast. In addition to many
specialized facilities including a cardiovascular institute, a
cancer care institute and a women's life care center, Aiken
Regional offers to the 50+ population a senior wellness program.
In Augusta there are additional five major hospitals and the
University of Georgia medical school.
What is the tax
situation in Aiken? South Carolina has one of the lowest tax
bases for retirees in the country. The state does not tax social
security, private pension payments, IRA distributions
or investment income. Property taxes run approximately 1.1% of
market value. There is a homested exemption of $50,000 on the
value of the property for people over sixty-five.
What are some of the unusual features about Woodside
Plantation? The community has been under development for 20
years and currently has approximately 1600 homes within the
community. It is a private gated community with its own 24 hour
security program.
What are some of
the amenities in Woodside? It has extensive walking and
jogging trails throughout the community. There are five view
amenity lakes that offer fishing, a community garden center, and
six parks and natural preserves. Approximately 18% of the
community is devoted to common area space. There are two
separate private country clubs that offer golf, tennis, swimming,
and dining - as well as other social activities.
Tell me about the
golf and tennis facilities. Woodside has two separate private
country clubs within its gates. Woodside Country Club is the
oldest with two 18 hole golf clubs, extensive tennis facilities
and a large club house and pool. The Reserve Club, which opened
in 2002 also has tennis, pool and club facilities, as well as an
18 hole Jack Nicklaus golf course which was recently rated by
Golf Digest as the 11th best golf course in South Carolina. In
addition, The Reserve Club is now building a second golf course,
designed by Fuzzy Zoeller.
What is the cost
of the home sites? Home sites range in price from
$40,000-$200,000, depending on the view and location. Wooded home
sites are priced from $40,000-$85,000. Golf course lots range
from $85,000-$185,000. The size of the home sites are typically
1/3 to 1/2 acre. There is no time limit as to when you have to
build on your lot.
What are the
prices for new homes? We offer a portfolio of 12 - 20 house
plans ranging in size from 1600 sq.ft. - 3100 sq.ft. These
houses are one story designs and are typically all brick. The
prices for the basic packages range from $195,000-$359,000 before
upgrades (the price does not include the cost of the home site ).
In addition, we have two custom home builders that offer homes in
the area.
How long does it
take to build a home? Actual construction of a home can vary
from 6-10 months, depending on the size and complexity of the
home. Additional time must be provided for pre-planning and
approvals.
